Semantic Warnings and Feature Interaction in Call Processing Language on Internet Telephony

چکیده
The Call Processing Language (CPL in short, RFC2824) is an XML-based language, which provides a flexible mean to create end-user services in the Internet Telephony (VoIP). However, the service description by non-experts does not always guarantee reliable services, thus, could be a cause of system faults. This paper first proposes six classes of the semantic warnings within the CPL scripts. For a given CPL script, the semantic warnings identify the sources of ambiguities, redundancies and inconsistencies, even though the script is syntactically well-formed with respect to the Document

On detecting feature interactions in the programmable service environment of Internet telephony
This paper presents a new method to tackle the feature interaction problem in Internet telephony with the CPL (Call Processing Language) programmable service environment. To cope with the problems of the programmable service, we first propose a notion of semantic warnings, which are guidelines for non-experts to assure semantic correctness of individual CPL scripts. Then, we define feature inte...
متن کاملEvaluating Semantic Warnings in VoIP Programmable Services with Open Source Environment
The programmable service for Internet telephony (VoIP) allows end-users or third parties to define their own customized services. However, it imposes a serious drawback that service description created by end-users is likely to contain problems that are semantically ambiguous or inconsistent. To cope with this problem, we have so far proposed semantic warnings, which are the guidelines to guara...
متن کاملFeature Interactions in Internet Telephony End Systems
Internet telephony end systems can offer many services. Different services may interfere with each other, a problem which is known as feature interaction. The feature interaction problem has existed in telecommunication systems for many years. The introduction of Internet telephony helps to solve some interaction problems due to the richness of its signaling information. However, many new featu...
متن کاملHandling Feature Interactions in the Language for End System Services
Since traditional telecommunication networks assume dumb terminals, there are rarely feature interactions involving end systems. However, in Internet telephony systems, such feature interactions are more likely. We defined a new scripting language called the Language for End System Services (LESS) specifically for end system service creation. One of the design goals of the language is to make i...
متن کاملFeature Interaction Problem in Computer-Telephony Integration Systems
In this paper we describe an ongoing project aimed at investigating the impact of feature interaction problems on computer telephony integration (CTI). As a representative and sophisticated example of CTI we use a call center. We outline a typical structure of a callcenter that comprises computing and telephony equipment, software and personnel. We then discuss the specific features of call cen...
